Josh The Barber
Joshua Winston is a native of Richmond, Virginia who currently resides in the Atlanta Metro Area. Joshua is married father of three children who recently sat down for an interview with me:
What made you want to become a barber?
Well, I saw a lot of interest in it cause first I believe in making people feel good. I thought that was one thing that I loved and building relationships.
How long have you been a barber?
I have been a barber for 15 years.
What’s the most challenging thing about being a barber?
Pleasing everyone (laughs)!
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a barber?
Changing people’s lives. I remember years ago, there was this guy I cut. He had a lot of insecurities within him but he shared with me how much it meant to him for me to cut his hair, how it made him feel good at work, it boosted his confidence and I’ll never forget that. So, just boosting the confidence of someone who may feel down in their self esteem.
How long do you plan on staying a barber?
6 months (laughs)! Just joking between 12 to 24 months, planning to put the clippers down very soon.
What advice would you give aspiring barbers?
Hmmm, the advice I would give to aspiring barbers would be to stay true to who you are and to keep God first. No matter if you’re building up a clientele or have a clientele staying true to yourself and keeping God first, he will guide you with the right people to connect, you will fall in love with the people who come your way and into your space.
Do you have any other business ventures outside of barbering that you’re pursuing?
Yes, I have launched a food product called Southern Granddaddy Potato Salad. It is currently sold at NY Butcher Shoppe (4969 Roswell Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30342), Candler Park Market (1642 McLendon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307), Fulton Bay Seafood (4025 Roosevelt Hwy, Atlanta, GA 30349) and more places to come!
